Ronald Araujo is loving life as one of Barcelona's captains and has spoken about the leadership qualities he brings to the Catalan side. The Uruguayan stepped up into the role of the Blaugrana's vice-captain last season.

Araujo has yet to appear this season due to a hamstring injury he sustained on international duty at Copa America in the summer. He's on the road to recovery and is considering continuing his role as one of the club's captains.

The Uruguay international spoke to Mundo Deportivo about the honor of wearing the captain's armband. He feels he has the personality befitting that of a leader:

"Being captain of Barca is a source of pride for me. I feel privileged to do so. I know the responsibility that it entails, but I feel very prepared for it. It comes very naturally to me, I think it's part of my characteristics to be a bit of a leader."

Araujo is a popular figure at Barcelona, and he appears to be a teammate who looks out for his fellow Blaugrana stars:

"I try to keep an eye on everything, to make sure everyone is okay, I worry about where they live and who they live with, if everything is okay. It's not just about being attentive on the pitch, but also off it, to make sure the group is okay. It all comes very naturally to me because of who I am."

Araujo has spent close to five years with Barca and has been a rock at the back with excellent performances. He's made 150 appearances and won the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de Espana.

Flick has yet to be able to use Araujo since replacing Xavi as Barcelona manager in the summer. The German coach has overseen a stellar start to the season, with his side top of La Liga, with eight wins and one loss in nine games.

Diario Sport reports that Flick is a big fan of Araujo because of his strong character, influence on his teammates, and ability to correct his mistakes. The centre-back has also impressed the fitness staff during his recovery from his hamstring injury.

Araujo was a mainstay in Barca's side last season after he was voted as one of the vice-captains. Flick will be eager for him to return to action as his Catalan troops continue to impress this season.
