Pundit claims Manchester United might not try to sign ex-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel

Former Chelsea left-back Scott Minto believes Manchester United will not hire Thomas Tuchel as their next manager. He reckons that the German manager would want to do things his own way, which the club would not want.

Erik ten Hag has reportedly come under immense pressure in recent times. He was linked with an exit last summer as well after leading United to their worst-ever Premier League finish - 8th. However, he ended up staying after an FA Cup win, where they beat Manchester City in the final.

He's again struggled this season as Manchester United have won just three of their opening 10 games across competitions, losing three and drawing four. Amidst rumors that he could be sacked, Thomas Tuchel has been linked with the managerial job at Old Trafford. However, Scott Minto doesn't believe the club's hierarchy will sign him as he said (via TBR Football):

“It’s no easy fix, it’s not just changing the manager. Whoever you get in, whether you get Ruud, which smacks to me as an interim, Ole all over again, or if you try to persuade Thomas Tuchel, which I don’t think they would, I don’t think they would want someone like him there because Tuchel wants it all his own way.”

The only English club Thomas Tuchel managed was Chelsea. He helped them win the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League, among other trophies but was sacked in 2022. He is currently without a job.

Manchester United retain their interest in Chelsea defender for a January transfer: Reports

As per TeamTalk, Manchester United are interested in signing Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell in the upcoming January transfer window. They were also interested in him in the summer but a move never materialized. They will have to compete with Juventus for the left-back's signature though.

Tyrell Malacia last played for United in 2023 and has since been out due to injuries. Even if he returns this season, it might take him a long time to get back to his best after a prolonged absence. Meanwhile, Luke Shaw has also had injury issues and hasn't played this season. Hence, Manchester United are looking to strengthen the left-back area in January.

Chelsea's new manager Enzo Maresca said at the start of the season that Ben Chilwell is not in his plans. The Englishman has played just one half of football this season in the EFL Cup and hasn't been the Blues' squad for any other game. Hence, he is also looking for an exit.
