Anthony Gordon has recently drawn transfer interest from Liverpool.

Ex-Everton scout Ian Duke has backed Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon to shine at Liverpool should a move materialize this summer.

Over the last couple of weeks, Gordon has emerged as a potential outgoing for the Eddie Howe-coached side. He has reportedly attracted interest from the Reds with the winger said to be flattered by the interest.

Duke, who helped Gordon join Everton's youth setup in 2012, has now backed the England international to be successful should he join Liverpool. He told The Echo:

"Especially being a Liverpool fan, I'd love him to go there and kick the door down. I think he's one of the best players around. I think he would improve again coming to [the Reds], playing with a batch of better players, [improve his] confidence, but I think he wants it. He's a Liverpool fan... there’s nothing better than playing for your boyhood team."

Duke also stated that he had once tipped the Newcastle United star to prove to be better than Reds midfielder Curtis Jones. He elaborated:

"He was a hard worker and just stood out, he was head and shoulders above everyone else. Curtis plays in that age group and at that point, Curtis was way ahead in other people's opinions but I said he'd go on and be better than Curtis."

Gordon, who is currently representing England at the UEFA Euro 2024, relished an excellent campaign for the Magpies last season. The 23-year-old winger registered 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 overall outings.

Prior to joining Newcastle in a potential £45 million switch in January 2023, Gordon spent close to 11 years at Everton. He made his senior debut for them in 2017 and contributed seven goals and eight assists in 77 matches across all competitions for the Reds' city rivals.

Daniel Sturridge urges Liverpool to get best out of player competing at UEFA Euro 2024

During Netherlands' 3-0 UEFA Euro 2024 last-16 win over Romania earlier in July, ex-Reds attacker Daniel Sturridge made an honest admission about Cody Gakpo. He wrote on X:

"Gakpo is a different player for Netherlands man. Gotta get the best out of him at LFC."

Gakpo, 25, has guided Netherlands to the Euro 2024 semi-final stage, contributing three goals and one assist in five tournament matches.

Last season, Gakpo was utilized as a central midfielder and as a false nine under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. The Dutchman, who is naturally a left winger, recorded 16 goals and six assists in 53 overall outings.
