"How do you give McTominay away?" - Pundit says he would 'arrest' directors at Manchester United that sanctioned sale of Scotland star

Football pundit Paolo Di Canio has questioned Manchester United's decision-makers for selling midfielder Scott McTominay to Napoli this summer. In an interview with Italian outlet Il Mattino, Di Canio commented on the Scotland international's move to Italy.

He said (via Express):

"I would go to those at Manchester United to arrest all the directors – how can you give away McTominay?"

Scott McTominay has scored and assisted once each in four Serie A matches for Napoli and also got on the scoresheet on his Coppa Italia debut. Notably, he has scored or assisted in each of his last three matches for the Italian side.

Manchester United sold McTominay for £25.7 million this summer and replaced him with Manuel Ugarte from, Paris Saint-Germain.

Rio Ferdinand blasted Manchester United for selling Scott McTominay

Rio Ferdinand, on his show Rio Presents, expressed his surprise at Manchester United's decision to sell Scott McTominay. He stated that the Red Devils needed a player of the midfielder's quality and said:

"I look at Scott McTominay and, like, not every player can be a star standout player or a franchise player. I always say this, to win the league you need the likes of a John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher, Chicharito, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from when we were at United. Or you need the likes of [Julian] Alvarez, when he was at City, who can come in. Last season, Jeremy Doku was coming in and impacting games even though not necessarily always starting all the games. Those players are huge, you need those players."

"They understand the DNA, especially the ones who come through the academy. Man United have always stood by that. It really doesn't sit right with me. To replace him, you are going to have to spend £30m, £40m, £50m and it's not going to be cheap to replace him. It's a gamble. You don't what you're going to get with that next player, whereas with him you know what you're getting," he added.

"It's on the tin. He turns up when he's playing, might not always be an eight or nine out of ten but he is a good seven and every now and then he will be an eight and get you a goal," he concluded.

Manchester United are struggling at 14th spot in the Premier League this season. Meanwhile, Napoli are on top of the Serie A table with 16 points from seven matches.
