Former Charlotte FC midfielder Brecht Dejaegere has claimed that Lionel Messi hated his time at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He stated that the Argentine admitted it to him after an Inter Miami match.

Speaking to RTFB, Dejaegere stated that Messi was surprised to get a question about his time at at the French capital. The midfielder added that the Argentine was not aware that they had met in Ligue1 too.

He said:

"At the final whistle, I asked him if he felt better in Miami than in France. He was surprised: I told him that I had played against him with Toulouse at the Parc des Princes. He didn't remember me, but it was my childhood dream come true. Messi has always been my favourite player! It was crazy to meet him. And so, that day, 'he told me that being at PSG was sh*t.'"
"Yes, 'sh*t'. Because if at the beginning, the welcome from the Parisians had been good, he had been taken against following the failure in the Champions League: he was whistled at every ball and he was fed up."

Lionel Messi spent two seasons at PSG after leaving Barcelona. He did not enjoy a good time in Ligue1 and ended up not extending his deal at the club only to move to the USA to join MLS club Inter Miami.

Lionel Messi admitted he never wanted to join PSG

Lionel Messi spoke to SPORT in 2023 and admitted in the interview that he was left with no choice but to join PSG. He added that he never wanted to leave Barcelona and that moving cities was not part of his plans.

He said:

"As I said at the time, my departure to Paris was not something I wanted, it was not something I wanted to leave Barcelona and, so to speak, it was from one day to the next. And, well, I also had to get used to a place that was totally different from where I had been living all my life, both in terms of the city and in a sporting sense, and, well, it was difficult, but the opposite of what is happening to me now here [in Miami]."

Lionel Messi has been at Inter Miami for the last two seasons and has been in fine form. He helped them win the Leagues Cup last year and followed it up with the MLS Supporters' Shield this season.
