Aaron Ramsdale has revealed that Mikel Arteta thanked him for his contribution at Arsenal following his exit this summer. The goalkeeper joined Southampton after losing his #1 spot to David Raya last season.

Speaking to Hawsbee and Baker on talkSPORT, Ramsdale said that he spoke to Arteta last week, and the two thanked each other. The Englishman added that he was looking forward to facing the Gunners with his new side soon.

Ramsdale said:

"Yeah, I only spoke to him last week. What he did for me in my time at Arsenal, I can only thank him for and he thanked me for my contribution as well."
"As a football club, getting back into the Champions League and pushing for a trophy and ultimately as manager's do they often make decisions that upset people. He made that decision, but we still speak I'm looking forward to getting some games under my belt here. We play them in a few weeks time which will be a nice return," he added.

Ramsdale is set to challenge Alex McCarthy and Gavin Buzunu for the #1 spot at Southampton after moving from the Gunners. He believes that he can take over from the duo and become the new #1 at the club.

Arsenal sold Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton this summer

Southampton signed Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal this summer for a reported £25 million fee. The goalkeeper signed a four-year deal with the option of another year on his contract.

The Gunners' manager Mikel Arteta spoke about the move and the Englishman and said:

"Aaron has been a top professional since joining in 2021 and has made many contributions during his time with us. We thank Aaron for everything he gave to Arsenal and we wish him and his family the best of health, success and happiness in his new opportunity with Southampton."

Sporting Director Edu added:

"We are pleased to have reached a very positive transfer completion with Southampton and Aaron leaves us with our best wishes. We thank Aaron for his performances for the club since joining us three years ago, and we wish him and his family well in their new chapter."

The Gunners signed Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United in 2021 and he played 89 times for them before leaving this summer.
