"He has a slight issue with one of his muscles" – Arne Slot claims Liverpool star could miss Bournemouth clash

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has claimed that Alisson Becker could miss the Reds' Premier League contest against Bournemouth at Anfield this Saturday (September 21).

Alisson, 31, has started the 2024-25 campaign on an excellent note, keeping three clean sheets in five matches across competitions in the process. He has conceded two goals, including one in the Premier League.

At a recent pre-game press conference, Slot insisted that Alisson is a big doubt for Liverpool's upcoming clash against Andoni Iraola's team. The 46-year-old said (h/t Liverpool Echo):

"Alisson is still a doubt if he can train today. We have to wait and see. He has a slight issue with one of his muscles. We wonder if this game tomorrow is coming too early or not. He didn't do it in the AC Milan game, he felt it before... then he felt it more and more. Now, we have to see if he's ready for the weekend."

Should Alisson fail to start the Reds' upcoming clash, Caoimhin Kelleher is likely to make his first appearance of the campaign this weekend.

Last season, Alisson missed 16 games due to a muscle and a hamstring injury. He recorded just 11 shutouts in 32 appearances across all competitions for his current club, conceding 32 goals along the way.

Liverpool star backed to shine this season

At a pre-match press conference, Arne Slot was asked what should Darwin Nunez do to start a contest for the Merseyside outfit in the ongoing campaign. He replied (h/t Liverpool Echo):

"He needs [to do] the same as all the others, work really hard and the goals will come. That's what he did against Milan, he came in for the team and then as a result of that, attackers have goals or assists. It happened with Cody [Gakpo]... so if you play for a team like Liverpool, you'll get them. For me, it's the work you do without the ball."

Slot, who helped Feyenoord lift two trophies as a manager, added:

"He will get his chance in the near future, we play a lot of games. He is fitter and fitter and understand day by day what we want from him. But he's in competition with Diogo [Jota] who has done well. Darwin came back with confidence from the Copa America."

Nunez, 25, is yet to start a game for his club this season. He has made four overall appearances for his side, featuring in 84 minutes of action.

So far, the Uruguayan star has found the back of the net 33 times and contributed 17 assists in 100 matches in all competitions for the Reds.
