Pundit explains why he believes Mo Salah might leave Liverpool next summer

The way former Premier League defender Nedum Onuoha sees it, Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah could potentially leave Anfield next summer. The Egyptian maestro is in the final year of his contract with the Merseyside giants, and there is no telling if he will stay or leave when it expires.

By January, Mohamed Salah will be in the final six months of his contract if it is not extended by then. This means he will officially be able to discuss a pre-contract with foreign clubs, who could sign him on a free transfer next summer.

Nedum Onuoha believes that the Egyptian winger, who has spent the better part of the last decade at Liverpool, is set to leave the club. He said on BBC Planet Premier League Podcast (via TBR Football):

“I think it will be Salah to be honest. I think it will be him. He seems way too chilled out if you know what I mean. He’s probably making plans for something else. I’m notoriously wrong, but I think it’ll be two of the three."

There are three important players who are currently at the near end of their contracts at Merseyside: Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Nedum Onuoha believes Van Dijk and Salah are more likely to leave, as he said:

"Of the ones I think could leave I think it’s Salah, Van Dijk and then Trent if the contract doesn’t find its way to where he lives or he doesn’t have a pen or something like that, otherwise he’s totally signing."

Salah has been a big part of Liverpool's success in recent years, scoring 215 goals and providing 93 assists in 356 games for the club.

What is the situation with Mohamed Salah's contract at Liverpool?

The club and the player's representatives seem to be at the negotiation table, especially as Salah is reportedly interested in staying at Anfield for longer. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the winger is happy in Merseyside, saying (via TBR Football):

“The situation for Mo is quite clear. He would be really happy to continue at Liverpool. I can confirm that. That is a crucial part of the story, Mo would like to stay at the club, Mo is very happy at Liverpool.
"Mo believes his future could still be in the Premier League in a Liverpool shirt, so the message from the player’s side is clear. Now it depends if they can reach an agreement on financial terms.”

The Reds are not well known for paying their players exorbitant sums of money as wages, which may be a potential issue for Salah. He reportedly receives £350,000 per week (via Capology) and may want more.

However, time will tell if they can come to an agreement that is pleasing for both sides on the negotiation table.
