Glen Johnson has urged Liverpool to ensure Trent Alexander-Arnold does not leave for Real Madrid. He claims that the right-back is too good to run down his deal and join Los Blancos for free.

Johnson said to BetFred that Alexander-Arnold was a key player for Liverpool and loves the club. However, the lure of Real Madrid is too good for all players and said:

"Madrid's Madrid. L'pool are going to be going through some uncertain times in the short-term, so if Real Madrid are at the table, it's difficult for players to not go. If he goes there, he's likely to win the Champions League again, so I don't think he could turn that down and Madrid would be crazy to not try and sign him. He could even sign a pre-contract with them from January onwards, but L'pool can't lose him for free.
"He's way too good for that to happen and it would be ridiculous business for L'pool to allow him to leave on a free transfer. I'm sure L'pool are trying to keep him, but as the clock's ticking and that Real Madrid are interested in him, then it's only going against L'pool at this moment in time."

Reports in Spain have suggested that Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Trent Alexander-Arnold. They are open to signing the defender next summer for free when his contract expires.

Liverpool urged to offer new contract to Trent Alexander-Arnold by former player

Daniel Sturridge spoke about Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier this summer and urged Liverpool to offer him a new deal. He believes that the Reds cannot lose a player like the Englishman and said on Sky Sports:

"That's a tough one, because I think all the top clubs around Europe are going to be sniffing. Then you've got L'pool, who, I think they've got to do everything in their power to get him [Alexander-Arnold] to sign on a dotted line. You can't lose a man of Trent, you know, he's from the city."

Apart from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool also have the contracts of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah to handle. The two have entered the final phase of their deals, and are also in the twilight of their careers.
