"He’s truly the next Messi, already robbing awards" - Fans react as Barcelona star wins 2024 Best Emerging Player at Globe Soccer Awards

Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal has recently been crowned the Best Emerging Player for 2024 at the Globe Soccer Awards. The young Spaniard's win has shocked several opposition fans who took to social media to share their opinions on the award.

The 16-year-old winger is already one of the best players in the world in his position and is a regular starter for La Blaugrana. However, social media has a different opinion.

A fan said:

"Yh he’s truly the next messi , already robbing awards at 16."

Another pointed out Jude Bellingham would have been a more suitable winner, posting:

"Why they nominate Bellingham then? Don’t make sense he win the best player overall but not that?"

Another poster said:

"Lmao what a joke."

Another post claimed:

"Lmao this kid is pr merchant."

Our final post from our selection laid the blame at Barcelona's feet, posting:

"Barca PR thing."

Lamine Yamal scored seven goals and provided 10 assists in 50 games this season. He will have to prove he is a worthy winner of the award in the coming weeks, with the young winger likely to feature in this summer's Euros. Barcelona will, however, be pleased with their young prodigy and hope Yamal wins many more awards with them.

Barcelona and Xavi Hernandez agree on compensation fee

Barcelona and former manager Xavi Hernandez have agreed on a fee of €2.5 million to terminate the Spanish manager's contract. After convincing him to remain at the club beyond the summer, the Catalan club announced that they would part ways with the former Blaugrana captain at the end of the season.

The Spanish manager had earlier announced his intention to leave the club at the end of the recently concluded season but decided to stay in the late stages of the campaign. However, his decision to stay and see out the final season of his contract with his boyhood club would not see fruition, with the Spanish World Cup winner and Los Cules still parting ways before the summer transfer window.

Xavi will look back with some pride at his performance in Barcelona despite the difficult circumstances at play. The young manager lifted a La Liga title in his first season at the helm and finished second this time to a fabulous Real Madrid side all while facing financial restrictions. Xavi will now look to the future and surely get another job in management soon after his impressive stint in Catalonia.
