Former Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny lavishes praise on former Tottenham star

Former Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has lavished praise on former Tottenham Hotspur forward Jermain Defoe. The Egypt international is currently without a club since parting ways with the Gunners after his contract with the club expired.

Elneny spent eight years on the books of Arsenal and featured 161 times for the north London giants, scoring six goals and winning three trophies in the process. He is currently pursuing his coaching badges alongside former Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe.

As he is getting to know the former England striker, Elneny has heaped praise on the 41-year-old. The Egyptian touched on how tactically astute the former Tottenham is, particularly about playing the number nine role.

Speaking to the PFA’s official Twitter account, the former Gunners midfielder said, as quoted by TBR Football:

“It’s great, it creates a great atmosphere and it’s a great thing to have around you. Look at Jermain Defoe, he’s a legend, but he can talk about the striker position and how to run behind, how to hold the ball up, how to get into the box, it’s really good."

Jermain Defoe enjoyed a glittering career playing for a host of clubs in the Premier League such as West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth, and Sunderland. He also played abroad for teams like Toronto FC and Rangers and has 57 caps for England, scoring 20 times.

After retiring in 2022, he joined Tottenham Hotspur as a club ambassador and an academy coach. He left Spurs this month to concentrate on a managerial career.

Didi Hamann predicts Premier League top 4 making big claim about Arsenal

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has predicted his Premier League top four for the upcoming 2024-25 season. The former Germany international has backed Manchester City to retain the title and while tipping Arsenal for a third-placed finish.

Hamann has predicted Manchester United to have a much better season this time out and finish second while backing Liverpool for the fourth spot. The former Liverpool and Manchester City star wrote on TopOffShoreSportsBooks:

"It's hard not to see Manchester City where they always are [at the top]. I'm not certain about Arsenal because they have missed their chances. I would go for Manchester City, Manchester United - if they make the signings they are linked with - then Arsenal in third and Liverpool in fourth."

He added:

"I've got a feeling Man United will do okay next season. Obviously, Kobbie Mainoo has been a breath of fresh air in the Euros and he'll play a major role."

Arsenal finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the last two seasons by fine margins (five points in 2022-23 and two points in 2023-24).
