Pundit Tony Cascarino believes Liverpool should sign Bryan Mbeumo to replace Mohamed Salah. He heaped praise on the Cameroon international, saying that he's got goals and is always a threat for the opposition.

Salah's contract with the Reds is set to expire next summer and he could leave as a free agent. He also revealed last month that the club are yet to speak to him about a contract extension. Amidst links with Saudi Arabian clubs, if the winger leaves, it would be a big blow to Liverpool.

Cascarino, meanwhile, believes if Salah leaves, the Reds should sign Bryan Mbeumo. He told talkSPORT co-host and Brentford fan Natalie Sawyer:

“I remember saying to you about if Mo Salah left, Mbeumo would be the one I would have gone after. He's got so much about him, he’s got goals, he’s got durability. He's just a nuisance every time he plays.”

Mbeumo, 25, has been excellent for Brentford since arriving from Troyes in 2019. He's scored 53 goals and provided 42 assists in 204 games for them. He's also started this season well with three goals in four games so far.

Mbeumo's contract with Brentford expires in 2026 and as per Transfermarkt, his market value is €40 million.

Arne Slot's assesses Liverpool's defeat to Nottingham Forest

Liverpool were handed their first defeat under Arne Slot this season on Saturday, September 14. They lost 1-0 against Nottingham Forest at Anfield in the Premier League, ending their perfect start to the season. Callum Hudson-Odoi's 72nd-minute goal proved to be the winner for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

In his post-match press conference, Arne Slot shared his thoughts on the match, pointing out how his side didn't create many chances despite dominating possession. Assessing the game, he said (via Liverpoolfc.com):

"I think the only thing we had influence on was ball possession because they played a lot of long balls, so if you then take the ball back you need to go past 11 players. We had a lot of ball possession but only managed to create three [or] four quite good chances, so that is by far not enough if you have so much ball possession.
"If you play so much in their half, we need to do much better. We lost the ball so many times in simple situations. That is, I think, the main story from the game: ball possession not good enough."

Liverpool will now take on AC Milan at San Siro in the UEFA Champions League league stage on Tuesday, September 17. They will return to the Premier League against Bournemouth at home four days later.
