“He’s got his finger in my mouth” - Paul Scholes recalls clash with 'nasty' Chelsea star who did 'weirdest things' on the pitch

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has claimed former Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise once tried to rip his mouth open. He added his compatriot was horrible with him and got him sent off.

Speaking with Nicky Butt on the Football's Greatenet podcast, Scholes said Wise was a 'nasty piece of work'. He added that the Chelsea legend was a 'wind-up merchant' and got him sent off despite doing worse things to him.

"Dennis Wise was horrible, weren't he? He did some of the weirdest things ever. I remember rolling on the floor with him during a game – not fighting or anything – and he's got his finger in my mouth. He's trying to like rip my mouth open. He was a nasty piece of work," Scholes said.

"He [Dennis Wise] was horrible with me. He got me sent off. He pinched me in the balls and got away with it. He got away with murder. He two-footed me in the head and when we were on the floor he's grabbed my balls. I should've booted him or punched him because I got sent off anyway. I only gave him a little knee. He was a wind-up merchant, but when you meet him outside of football, he's actually a decent bloke. He worked at Newcastle while I was there, and he's a good bloke, to be fair, but on the pitch, he was nasty," he added.

Paul Scholes faced Dennis Wise 14 times during his career at Manchester United. The Chelsea legend only managed to win three times, but one of them was in the FA Charity Shield in 2000.

Paul Scholes spoke about Chelsea earlier this summer and claimed that the Blues have started well under Enzo Maresca. However, he was concerned about two positions – the goalkeeper and the striker.

The former midfielder is not sure if Robert Sanchez and Nicolas Jackson are good enough to be in the starting XI and said on The Overlap:

“We were saying Maresca is going to be the first one gone. These results have almost calmed things down. You look at the squad there is a lot of talent. I’m a little bit worried about the centre-forward to be honest. I’m worried about the keeper a little bit.”

Jackson has scored four league goals in six games for Chelsea this season. Meanwhile, Sanchez has had a shaky start but made a crucial penalty save in the 1-0 win over AFC Bournemouth in mid-September.
