"He’s a good guy, good person" - Chelsea boss provides response when asked about Enzo Fernandez video during Argentina celebrations

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has defended midfielder Enzo Fernandez after the Argentine was criticised for his recent online activities. Fernandez found himself in hot water after he live streamed a video of himself and most of the Argentina team after their Copa America triumph.

Travelling by bus, they sang racist chants about the French national team, which drew criticism from the footballing fraternity and his teammates at Stamford Bridge.

The Argentine midfielder is yet to join up with the rest of the Blues' squad as they continue preparations for the 2024-25 season.

New Blues coach Enzo Maresca appeared at his first press conference as Blues' boss, where he fielded questions from reporters regarding the Argentine midfielder.

“The only thing I can say from my point of view is that they are all young with good intentions, he’s a good guy, good person, good human being. There was not any bad intention,” Maresca said.

The former Leicester City boss defended the midfielder, who was the Blues' record signing until they signed Moises Caicedo last summer. He also confirmed that Fernandez would join up with the squad in the USA by July 29 to commence pre-season with them.

Chelsea will commence their pre-season tour of the USA with a friendly against League One side Wrexham on Thursday. Both sides faced in pre-season last summer as well, with the Blues claiming a comfortable 5-0 win in that game.

Chelsea closing in on deal for Danish goalkeeper - Reports

Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal to sign Denmark U-21 international Filip Jorgensen from LaLiga outfit Villarreal. The Blues are in direct contact with the Spanish club over a move for the young goalkeeper, as per The Athletic.

Enzo Maresca wants a goalkeeper who can be an asset for his team in possession, hence his pursuit of a new goalkeeper. Having worked with Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic since the start of July, the Italian manager seems to be unimpressed and keen on a different goalkeeper.

Chelsea already have an agreement in place with the 22-year-old goalkeeper, who is keen on the move. The Blues are looking to pay between €20 and €25 million to sign Jorgensen, who is also wanted by Olympique Marseille.
