Manchester United great Dwight Yorke has claimed that he would pick Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez ahead of Rasmus Hojlund in his team.
During a recent chat with UK-based betting outlet Boyle Sports, Yorke shared his two cents on the aforesaid strikers. He opined (h/t GOAL):
"If I could, I'd swap Rasmus Hojlund for Darwin Nunez because he has more in his locker. He has pace, he has power, he can head the ball, he has the presence. He just needs to improve his finishing and he'd be the best striker in the league. We need to wait and see if he can do that, but as a manager, I'd choose Nunez over Hojlund any day of the week."
Nunez, 25, has proved to be a divisive figure at Liverpool since arriving from Benfica in a potential £85 million deal in 2022. He contributed 18 goals and 13 assists in 3,026 minutes, across 54 games, last season.
Hojlund, on the other hand, joined Manchester United from Atalanta in a deal worth up to £72 million last August. The 21-year-old registered 16 goals and two assists in 3,088 minutes, across 43 matches, last term.
Liverpool great says Reds were right to not sign Manchester United man this summer
Earlier last month, Manchester United beat Liverpool and Real Madrid to snap up Leny Yoro in a potential £59 million transfer from LOSC Lille.
Now, Jamie Carragher has suggested that the Reds were right to not pursue a deal for the defender. He told YouTube channel Blood Red:
"The Yoro one, I totally understand. Why would you pay £50-£60 million for a young centre-back when we have Jarell [Quansah], who has cost us nothing? Is he going to get enough football at our club that he would somewhere else? We have got [Ibrahima] Konate there. Do I think we need a centre-back? Yeah. But I don't think we need a project and spending that type of money."
Carragher, who represented Liverpool a whopping 737 times, added:
"If you do that, then the lad has to be playing 25-30 games a season to progress his career. I am sure that's what they have said at Manchester United. 'You might not be the first choice, but as soon as someone is injured, you are in, and you will get your 25-30 games', so it was the right decision not to go through with that."
Yoro, 18, is currently nursing a foot injury and will return in November.
