Sergio Aguero has backed Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr to win the Ballon d'Or. He claims that the Brazilian has been better than Kylian Mbappe this term and it was the case last season as well.
Speaking on a live stream with Neymar, Aguero stated that Vinicius Jr has shown why he deserves the Ballon d'Or. He added that the Brazilian has been significantly better than his Real Madrid teammates and said (via MARCA):
"This season, Vinicius has been better than Mbappe. He is a player who creates danger. When the ball is with Vinicius, you feel the threat. I would like Vinicius to win the Ballon d'Or. He has been significantly better this season," he said.
Neymar also threw his weight behind Vinicius Jr to win the award this year and said earlier this summer:
"Vinicius had a fantastic season. I love him. I will root for him to win the Ballon d’Or. I think there is no one to win it but him. We are with Vini. He deserves it because he's a fighter who suffered a lot throughout his life but he surpassed all the criticism. I'm very happy he is carrying the Brazil flag around the world."
The France Football awards are just a month away, with reports suggesting that Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and Rodri are the front-runners to win the Ballon d'Or.

Vinicius Jr spoke about the Ballon d'Or earlier this year and admitted that he was eyeing the award. However, he wanted to keep his focus on the matches that were left in the season and told ESPN:
"Everyone talks about the Ballon d’Or but I'm very calm. I want to win another Champions League with this team. I can do great things this season and then I have to go with Brazil [for the Copa América]. I always think about the teams first and then me."
"We were able to place the best team in the world in another final. We have 25 stars in the team, all of us have worked hard to achieve our aim, which is to go to London [for the Champions League final] and to win La Liga. We have won La Liga, we are going to London."
Vinicius Jr won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid but could not help Brazil win the 2024 Copa America.
