Hansi Flick claims Barcelona have one player who has been best in the world in his position for last 10 years

Barcelona have started the season on a strong note, as they currently stand as the only team with a perfect record in La Liga. A key contributor to their success has been Robert Lewandowski, who is regarded by manager Hansi Flick as the “best player in the world” in his position.

Lewandowski joined the Blaugrana in the 2022-23 season. While his numbers have been impressive, there were concerns about his form following Flick’s arrival. However, he has seemingly turned things around, scoring seven goals in as many league matches and helping Barcelona win all their games in the La Liga.

After scoring twice against Villarreal during their 5-1 victory, he recently found the back of the net against Getafe as well, which ultimately proved to be the winning goal.

Reflecting on the 36-year-old's form after a challenging summer with Poland in the Euros, Flick offered high praise, asserting that he has been the best forward in the world over the last decade.

“Robert Lewandowski has been the best center striker in the world for the last 10 years. His job is to play in front and score goals, and he does that. Simple!" Flick said (via BarcaNewsNetwork).

Flick certainly knows how to maximize Lewandowski’s abilities, considering the Pole had the best season in his career under the same manager at Bayern Munich. He scored an impressive total of 55 goals across all competitions in that campaign, leading the German club to a historic treble.

The Barcelona faithful will undoubtedly hope that the forward maintains his fine form as they face a tough stretch of fixtures.

Lewandowski certainly wasn’t at his best under Xavi last season, as he recorded his lowest goal tally since the 2014-15 season. Discussing the differences from last year to this one, the forward noted that the style of play under Flick and the manager’s clear instructions have benefitted both him and the team so far.

“We are looking to get the ball into the box more quickly this season and as a striker that’s my zone, that’s where I want the ball. I want more contact with the ball. Everyone knows what they have to do, the older players, the younger players, we know how we need to attack and defend. We have to score more than the opposition and that’s what we have to do,” he said following Barcelona 5-1 victory over Villarreal (via BarcaBlaugranes).

Fixtures are certainly coming thick and fast now, as the Catalan club are set to face Osasuna on Saturday, September 28, before taking on Young Boys in the Champions League tie on Tuesday, October 1.
