Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo expressed his excitement prior to his side's massive clash against rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, September 1. The young midfielder acknowledged the gravity of the game and stated that the result could have a 'big impact' on the season ahead.

After making his way into United's first team as a replacement for the injured Casemiro in late 2023, Mainoo has become one of the hottest young prospects in world football. He has made 38 appearances for the Red Devils, with five goals and an assist to his name.

In his fledgling senior career, the 19-year-old is yet to lose a game against Liverpool, with one win and two draws in their three previous match-ups. He also scored his first goal at Old Trafford against the Reds in a 2-2 draw in April 2024.

Previewing his fourth game against the Reds, Mainoo said (via Tribal Football):

"For both of us, it’s a huge game so early in the season. I feel like it will have a big impact on how the start of the season will map out, because it's such a big fixture, it will affect us. So yeah, we'll have to prepare right and we'll be ready for it."

With the game being held at Old Trafford, the youngster urged the Manchester United faithful to turn out in numbers and support the side. He added:

"Both games at Old Trafford, it was rocking. It was amazing. So that definitely helps us. It’s like a 12th man on the pitch for us when it's like that, so we appreciate that."

Mainoo is likely to start the game in midfield, alongside club captain Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has claimed that his side are really eager to take on Liverpool in a high-stakes Premier League clash. The Dutch tactician claimed that games between the Red Devils and the Reds have always been 'very exciting'.

Speaking to reporters before the game, Ten Hag said (via Mirror):

"It's always, when Liverpool comes, very exciting. We are really looking forward to competing with them. So we have a good squad; we can bring a good team out. Of course it's early in the season. We have to progress, we have to improve, also because we have to integrate some new players in. But yeah, we are really looking forward to this game."
