Fabrizio Romano has stated that Newcastle United have not shown any interest in selling Anthony Gordon to Liverpool. He stated that the Reds are still interested, but there are no negotiations yet.

In his Daily Briefings, Romano has reported that the Reds are interested in signing Gordon and tried to bring him in June too. He added that Arne Slot's side believe the move is a bit too expensive and said:

"L'pool tried to explore the Anthony Gordon deal in June as an opportunity but Newcastle didn't open the door. Despite fresh speculation, I'm not aware of anything new going on – it's still the same situation. Appreciation remains but no direct negotiations yet, and also at the current conditions L'pool consider that too expensive. It's quiet now, but we will see later in the window."

Gordon played for Everton previously but reportedly grew up as a Liverpool fan.

Liverpool urged to sign Anthony Gordon by pundits

Former Liverpool forward John Barnes believes Anthony Gordon will bring in the energy and pace Liverpool need. He added that the Newcastle United winger suits the Arne Slot system perfectly and told Betting Expert:

"We like local players and he's not only English but he's a Scouser. He's got energy and lots of pace, he's very dynamic and he's a player that even Jurgen Klopp would have liked. If Arne Slot is looking at Gordon as an option he would be great at L'pool. The interest in Gordon is leading me to believe L'pool are going to be a very intense, driven and high pressing team."

Former Reds midfielder Didi Hamann was also of the opinion that Gordon would be a good addition to the Liverpool squad. He added that the winger would be able to replace Mohamed Salah and told Top Offshore Casinos:

"No one really knew what to expect when L'pool signed Mohamed Salah, on the other hand, we've seen Anthony Gordon have a huge impact in the Premier League. He did so at Everton even when they were struggling and after a tough start at Newcastle he has battled through and he's one of their best players now. So Gordon would be great."

Newcastle United have reportedly set a £85 million price tag on Anthony Gordon amid interest from Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
