Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes reiterated his passion for the club after penning a contract extension. Having arrived in January 2020, the 29-year-old is now set to be at Old Trafford till 2027.

The Portugal midfielder has been a key performer for the side since arriving nearly five years ago. In 234 games across competitions, he has contributed 79 goals and 67 assists. That includes 15 goals and 13 assists in 48 outings across competitions last season.

As announced by the club on their website, Fernandes is contracted to Old Trafford till 2027, with the option of another year.

The three-time Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year winner is undoubtedly ecstatic to extend his stay at the club, telling United's website:

“Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United. I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club."

Reminiscing on the 'special moments' he has had at Old Trafford, Fernandes continued:

“I have had so many special moments here already; hearing my name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team out at Old Trafford on European nights and lifting trophies at Wembley. But I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t believe that my best moments in a United shirt are still to come."

Looking forward to leading the team and fighting for major trophies, he concluded:

“From my discussions with the football leadership and manager, it is clear how determined everyone is to fight for major trophies in the years ahead. I can see how positive the future is going to be, and I am relishing leading this team forward.”

Fernandes is coming off a quarter-final showing with Portugal at Euro 2024.
