Marco van Basten has blasted Erik ten Hag and Manchester United for the signings they have made since the Dutchman took over at Old Trafford. He believes that the top clubs go for world-class stars, but the Red Devils opt to sign second-class players on Ten Hag's insistence.

Van Basten stated that the signings made by Ten Hag have not improved Manchester United. He believes that the top clubs always look to get their squad better and said (via @TheEuropeanLad on X):

"The big clubs.. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Arsenal, they all sign the better players while Erik ten Hag comes with second class signings who won't improve his team."

The former AC Milan striker added that the Dutch manager made a mistake by signing Manuel Ugarte from PSG. He added that the Uruguayan midfielder is not worth 25% of the reported €50 million they paid for the midfielder.

"How on earth did Erik ten Hag decide to spend €50M for Ugarte? It's bizarre. I only needed those 2 games to see that he's not even worth 25% of that amount," he said.

Manchester United signed Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui this summer, spending over €200 million.

Manchester United are not playing well, claims former Premier League manager

Former Ajax defender Frank de Boer was on Viaplay TV earlier this month and criticized Erik ten Hag and Manchester United. He claimed that the team have no style and keep making mistakes on the pitch. He said (via Mirror):

"Having watched them and having now analysed Man United, I can only say that they are in a bad state. I was looking at the players - and one after the other they made such stupid mistakes. So many players are making poor passes. I was trying to count the amount of big things that went wrong in the first 45 minutes and it was impossible to count those big mistakes on the fingers of two hands."
"I am stunned by what I saw in Manchester. It became even more clear how bad United are when I looked at the way Tottenham played from the back, how they built things up, always finding a free player, showing guts on the ball and having the right power in a fight for the ball. I found it remarkable how an opponent of United's could play like that."

Manchester United are 14th in the Premier League with just two wins from seven matches this season.
