Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has hit back at critics following his side's thumping 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday night (September 17). The Belgian said he doesn't focus on online criticism and vowed to keep going.
Kompany was appointed Bayern's manager on a three-year deal in July. Considering he started his coaching career recently, many believed the Bavarian job was a step too high for him and utilized that as an avenue to troll the former Burnley boss.
However, the former Manchester City captain isn't bothered by naysayers. After Bayern Munich secured an emphatic 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener, Kompany took shots at his critics. The Belgian reminded them of how he'd overcome the odds and pledged to keep moving forward.
“I'll tell you something in a quick way just to prove a point," he said via Fabrizio Romano on X. “I was born in Brussels, my dad was a refugee who came from Congo. What are my chances of even playing in the Premier League, winning something as a player, playing for the national team? The odds were 0.000 something. Now I'm a coach."
“Do you just stop believing in yourself and what you can achieve because of what other people say? The mentality is to keep going and in the end if you fail you fail, if you succeed you succeed. but you can always become better. Online you can always find stuff so I really don't take it personal," the former Premier League defender added.
