Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez spoke about his difficulties of playing professional football in December 2023. At the time, the former Liverpool attacker was poised to switch from Brazilian outfit Gremio to the MLS.

Suarez admitted that he took multiple injections before matches that enabled him to get on the pitch and do the job for his respective teams. While speaking to Uruguayan radio station Radio 890 Sport, the experienced forward said:

"Days before each game, I take three pills, and hours before I get an injection. If not, I can't play. Hence the limp. I have to think that maybe in five years I won't be able to play five-a-side football with my friends."
"The truth is that the first steps in the morning are very painful. Anyone who sees me thinks that it is impossible for me to play a game. My son asks me to play with him and I simply cannot," he added.

Suarez is most fondly remembered for his spells at Liverpool and Barcelona. He made 133 appearances across competitions for the Reds, bagging 82 goals and 34 assists.

With Barca, the striker played 283 matches across competitions, bagging 195 goals and 113 assists. He won the UEFA Champions League once and four La Liga titles, among other honors at Camp Nou.

Suarez still manages to get himself fit enough to represent Inter Miami and has made 22 appearances so far for the Herons, bagging 14 goals.

Injury keeping Luis Suarez out is not new, and the striker is set to miss Wednesday's (July 24) MLS All-Star match against the Liga MX All-Stars along with Lionel Messi.

The league announced that both players will be out due to injury, with Messi suffering an ankle problem and Suarez experiencing knee discomfort.

The statement read (via WION):

"Messi will miss the All-Star game due to an ankle injury, while Luis Suarez, who recently returned from international duty after over 40 days away from the club, will miss the All-Star game due to knee discomfort."

Inter Miami will hope that these issues aren't too serious, given the importance of the players. Their next competitive fixture is a Leagues Cup group stage match against Puebla at the Chase Stadium on Saturday (July 27).
