Cristiano Ronaldo’s 21-year-old teammate ranked second, ahead of eighth-placed Vinicius Jr, in list of best dribblers last year

Vinicius Jr was bested by Cristiano Ronaldo
Vinicius Jr was bested by Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal teammate Francisco Conceicao for best dribblers last year.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal teammate, Fransico Conceicao finished second, while Vinicius Jr came eighth for the best dribblers last year. The report released by the CIES Football Observatory, powered by Wyscout, used the frequency of successful dribbles and success rate to determine the rankings.

The report features some of the best forwards in the world, with Manchester City's Belgian youngster Jeremy Doku taking the top spot, while Napoli's Georgian forward Kvicha Kvaratskhelia rounded up the top-three.

Conceicao played 43 times across competitions for FC Porto, who were managed by his father Sergio, and scored eight goals and provided as many assists.

The 21-year-old's performances helped convince Portugal boss Roberto Martinez to call him up for Euro 2024, where he played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and scored once in four appearances.

Meanwhile, Vinicius had a more successful season, winning La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, bagging 24 goals and 11 assists in 39 games across competitions. While the Brazilian is not the top dribbler in Europe, his performances last season remain impressive enough to put him in the Ballon d'Or conversation.

Carlo Ancelotti says Vinicius Jr and Cristiano Ronaldo are different players

Real Madrid manager Carlos Ancelotti believes Cristiano Ronaldo and Vinicius are different players. The legendary Italian manager has coached both players at the club but doesn't see too many similarities.

When asked about the similarities between both players, Ancelotti said (via Football Italia):

“They are different players. Cristiano made Real Madrid’s fortune in the past. Vini is doing it now. Surely, they are great talents.”

Vinicius arrived in the summer of 2018, when Cristiano Ronaldo left, adding validity to the legendary manager's claims. The Brazilian, who now wears the iconic No. 7 jersey for Los Blancos hasn't hidden his admiration for his predecessor, telling the press after a Super Cup hat-trick against Barcelona:

“The celebration was for Cris, because he's my idol, and now he is playing here.
"The people in Saudi Arabia have a special love for me, I am very happy for what we did today. To beat Barcelona 4-1 is very hard and today we had an almost perfect game.”

Ronaldo remains a legendary figure in Real Madrid history, with his impressive tally of 450 goals and 131 assists in 438 games unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.
