Former Real Madrid striker addresses if Mbappe can match Ronaldo's legacy

Former Real Madrid star Joselu has addressed questions about if Kylian Mbappe can match Cristiano Ronaldo's exploits for the club. The Portuguese superstar was legendary for Los Blancos in his nine years at the club, bagging 450 goals in his nine-year stint. He's their all-time top scorer.

Meanwhile, Mbappe joined the legendary Madrid-based club this summer on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the summer. The 2018 World Cup winner was legendary for the Ligue 1 giants before his departure. He was their all-time top scorer, bagging 256 goals and 108 assists in 308 games.

However, Joselu believes that the 25-year-old can only hope to achieve the numbers Ronaldo achieved at the club. He told Mundo Deportivo via Madrid Universal:

“Cristiano has been the ‘GOAT’ of Real Madrid, the top scorer in the history of the club. Mbappe’s goal will be to make similar numbers but Cristiano is the best striker who has passed through Real Madrid.”

The Frenchman has begun life at the reigning LaLiga and UEFA Champions League holders well. Mbappe has played 887 minutes so far and scored seven goals while setting up one in 11 games across competitions.

Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo tips Kylian Mbappe to win the Ballon d'Or

Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo has tipped Kylian Mbappe to claim the Ballon d'Or award at the club. The French striker has won every prize available except the UEFA Champions League and is considered one of the best players in the world at the moment.

On his YouTube channel, the Portuguese superstar hailed the World Cup-winning forward and tipped him to do well, saying via ESPN:

"I think [Mbappé] will do well. The structure of the club ... it's nice, it's good. They have a great coach and the president, Florentino [Pérez], who has been there many many years. I think it won't be a big problem because of his talent. Mbappé can be the next golden ball [Ballon d'Or] winner. Him, [Erling] Haaland, [Jude] Bellingham, Lamine [Yamal]."

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner concluded by hailing his former club, saying:

"Madrid is the kind of team they don't rush under pressure. People say they're lucky in the Champions [League]. No they are not lucky. They're prepared for this kind of moment. The Bernabéu has that different aura.
"Now, if you say that Madrid is going to be better or not, we don't know. Mbappé is there now, I think Madrid will keep strong, but I don't know if they will be better than last year. Only God knows."

The Al-Nassr striker is the highest all-time goal scorer in Los Blancos history, bagging more goals than games for the Madrid-based club. Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or four times during his nine-year stint at the club, among numerous other honors.
