Chelsea's attacking midfielder, Cole Palmer has picked French superstar Kylian Mbappe ahead of Real Madrid legend Vinicius as the current best player in the footballing world. This was made known to the public in an interview by Goal, where Palmer was asked to pick his current best player.

In the footballing world there have been an interesting debate as to who the current best player is. Thus, Palmer was quoted saying:

"I’d go Vinicius Jr or Mbappé. Let me say Mbappé."

When we try to acess both players in the footballing world right now, it can be stated that Vinicius and Mbappe have been decent in recent years.

Vinicius has been a key player in Real Madrid's attack in recent years, winning multiple trophies, including the UEFA Champions League trophy. However, there have been concerns as regards his presence in the Brazilian national team.

This is based on the idea that he's yet to sufficiently prove himself in his national team as he's yet to win a major trophy with the Brazilian senior team.

On the other hand, Mbappe has been a significant player in the French national team squad as he was one of the brains behind France's 2018 World Cup win.

Similarly, Mbappe played a pivotal role in helping France to reach the 2022 World Cup final as he also netted two crucial goals in France's loss against Argentina in the final.

However, Mbappe is yet to add a Champions League trophy to his cabinet, despite scoring 256 goals and registering 108 assists in 308 games for his previous club, Paris Saint-Germain.

However, his quest of winning the Champions League was one of the reasons why he joined Real Madrid. Since joining them, Mbappe has netted seven goals and registered one assist in 11 appearances.


Can Vinicius win the 2024 Ballon d'Or award?

The clock is ticking, and the date for the 2024 Ballon d'Or award is drawing closer. The award is scheduled at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France, on October 28.

Thus, one of the leading contenders for this award is Vinicius as the Brazilian had an excellent outing last season, where he was one of the brains behind Real Madrid's LaLiga and Champions League triumph.

Similarly, he netted 24 goals and registered 11 assists in 39 appearances for Los Blancos. Hence, making him a decent contender.

In the ongoing 2024-25 campaign, the Brazilian winger have been excellent, netting four goals and making seven assists in 12 appearances for Real Madrid. As such, it can be said that he arguably have a decent chance of winning the award ahead of some other decent contenders.
