Chelsea have received an injury setback, as Wesley Fofana is now a doubt for France. The defender played the entire match against Nottingham Forest but is currently struggling with fitness issues.

According to a report from L'Equipe, Fofana is a doubt for France's matches against Israel and Belgium. They claim that the French national medical team are monitoring his situation as he had returned from a long-term injury.

Fofana was taken off against West Ham United amid injury concerns, but Enzo Maresca played it down quickly. Maresca told the media after the match:

"It's nothing serious. The reason why we changed him was because we try to protect him a little bit and also he was on a yellow card."

In an interview with the club's official website, the Chelsea manager added:

"Wes is a player that I really love, I am in love with Wes!' said Maresca after the win over West Ham. He is doing fantastic after one year injured and, for any player in the world, when you are out for one year and then you come back it is not easy, and he is doing top. This is the only thing we want from him."

Wesley Fofana picked up his fifth booking of the Premier League season during the 1-1 draw to Nottingham Forest. He will now miss the Liverpool clash after the international break.

Wesley Fofana full of praise for Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca

Wesley Fofana spoke to Chelsea's official website in September and stated that he is happy with the new manager. The Frenchman claimed that Enzo Maresca has been very clear about his plans from the first training session and said:

"We have a lot of meetings and watch a lot of videos to see the plan. We started in pre-season. First training session of the season he told the team what he wants and it is good. The style is good for the players we have. It's offensive football. It's very good. When you want to win titles and want to win every weekend, you focus on the little details. This is the difference between a good team and a big team. He explains every day in training that the little details are very important."

Fofana missed the entire 2023/24 season after picking up an ACL injury before pre-season started.
