Chelsea to hand superstar Cole Palmer an incremental wage package to keep him at the club for a decade - Reports

Chelsea are reportedly set to offer Cole Palmer a rise in his salary after the form he displayed during the 2023-24 campaign. The Blues are said to be confident that they can keep the 22-year-old star for the next 10 years.

Chelsea signed Palmer last summer for a reported £42.5 million from Manchester City. The attacker signed a seven-year contract with an option to extend a further year on an £80,000 per week salary.

Given the club's exorbitant spending, there were questions initially about the sum spent on the City academy graduate who struggled for game time under Pep Guardiola.

However, Palmer quickly began to prove his worth with his extraordinary displays for the west London outfit. He ended the 2023-24 campaign as the club's top goalscorer, contributing 27 goals and 15 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

After an exceptional debut season at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are now keen on rewarding Palmer with a hike in his wage package. However, instead of signing a new contract, the club plan to privately alter the wage terms of his existing deal.

A source told The Telegraph:

“Chelsea expect Cole to be at the club for the next 10 years. So of course they will look after him and make sure his wages reflect his performances. here is no need to do that publicly or with grand announcements. The club will work with Cole and his representatives, rather than doing their business in public.”

Palmer managed to replicate some of that form at the Euro 2024 despite his lack of starts for England. He scored in the final against Spain and set up the match-winner in the semi-final against the Netherlands.

"He was phenomenal last season" - Gary Cahill lavishes praise on Chelsea star Cole Palmer

Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has lavished praise on Cole Palmer for his performances last season. The retired center-back admitted that he did not expect the 22-year-old to have such an impact in his debut season.

Cahill enjoyed quite a successful career at Stamford Bridge, spending seven and a half seasons with the Blues. The Englishman registered 290 appearances in that time, contributing 25 goals and six assists.

He won the UEFA Champions League, two Premier Leagues, two UEFA Europa League titles, two FA Cups, and one Carabao Cup with the Blues.

The former Chelsea star believes Palmer had a magnificent debut campaign at Stamford Bridge. Cahill said (via The Chelsea Chronicle):

“I think no one really maybe expected his impact to be as big as it was straight away. He obviously comes from the pedigree of Man City, obviously he’s used to the league a bit more than others. But ability wise, he was phenomenal last season."
