Fans react to Chelsea star's performance in 1-1 draw against Inter

Chelsea fans have taken to social media to slam the performance of Wesley Fofana in the 1-1 friendly draw with Inter Milan on Sunday (August 11). The Blues welcomed the Serie A outfit to Stamford Bridge for their last pre-season friendly and were lucky to snatch a draw, thanks to a late goal from Lesley Ugochukwu.

Striker Marcus Thuram gave the visitors the lead in the 26th minute. The Nerrazuri looked to be heading back to Italy with a win before a late goal from Ugochukwu restored parity for Enzo Maresca's side.

The London club ended their pre-season with another below-par performances. In six friendlies, they won just one once (vs Club America). They lost to Celtic, Manchester City and Real Madrid and shared the spoils with Wrexham and Inter Milan.

While the team's overall performance against Inter was questionable, fans singled out Fofana for his poor display against Inter. He was a part of the starting XI but was replaced with Benoit Badaishile in the 69th minute following a shaky display at the back.

After the game, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the French defender's performance. Check out some of the reactions on X (formerly Twitter):

One fan wrote:

"Fofana cannot be near the starting XI. I can’t believe I am saying this but we may need another CB."

Another posted:

"Fofana didn’t have a good game at all. He’s been out for like a year, so I understand but spooky today."

A third fan said:

"Fofana isn't composed at all. He's all over d place and lacks awareness."

It's worth noting that the 23-year-old is returning to action after missing out the enitre 2023-24 season with a knee injury.

What's next for Chelsea?

Chelsea now set focus on their Premier League opener against defending Champions Manchester City on Sunday (August 18) at home.

After failing to impress during pre-season, the former Leicester City manager must galvanise his side for the season proper. The Blues have beefed up their ranks with nine signings this summer.

After playing Pep Guardiola's side on matchweek one, Chelsea play Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crysral Palace and Bouremnouth and West Ham United in their next four league games of the campaign.
