Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and striker Rasmus Hojlund have reacted to midfielder Scott McTominay's departure to Napoli. The 27-year-old had come up through the ranks at the club.

Making his debut under former boss Jose Mourinho, the Scotland international scored 29 times and assisted on eight occasions in over 250 appearances across competitions.

However, he leaves despite producing his most prolific goalscoring campaign (10 goals) last season for a United side that finished a lowly eighth in the Premier League but won the FA Cup.

Following the confirmation of McTominay's departure to Napoli, Fernandes posted (as per MUFC Scoop):

"All the best my Scottish friend Scott McTominay"

Hojlund - who arrived at Old Trafford last summer - commented (as per MUFC Scoop):

"Gonna miss u Big lad Scott McTominay"

In what turned out to be his final campaign at Old Trafford, McTominay registered 10 goals and three assists in 47 games across competitions. That included seven goals and an assist in 32 games in the league.

He also contributed two goals and an assist in six games in their victorious FA Cup campaign, where United upset holders Manchester City 2-1 in the final.

Outgoing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is 'grateful' to the Premier League giants as he prepares to embark on a new challenge outside the United Kingdom.

The 2015-16 U-21 Premier League winner for United couldn't win the league title with the senior team but departs with a League Cup and FA Cup win in successive seasons, both under current boss Erik ten Hag.

Following the confirmation of his departure to Napoli, McTominay said (as per the BBC):

"I've absolutely loved it and I'm very, very grateful for the football club, and I'm ready for a new challenge, and I'm ready to go and embrace it and take it by storm.
"I want to see Manchester United win, I want to see us do really, really well, and I'll be watching as well. Thank you for having me, and I have enjoyed every minute."

Ten Hag conveyed his 'mixed' feelings on the Scot's departure:

"I'm very happy for him. "It's also [a good deal] for us, but it is mixed because I wouldn't prefer to lose him because he's Manchester United in everything. He was so important for our team, for Manchester United, but unfortunately it's the rules."

McTominay made two appearances for United this season, including the 2-1 Premier League defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
