Arne Slot shares thoughts on replacing Jurgen Klopp

New Liverpool boss Arne Slot talked about the pressure that came with replacing Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in his first press conference at the club. The Dutch manager was drafted to replace Klopp after he departed at the end of last season.

The German tactician was a great success at the club, ending the Anfield-based club's three-decade-long wait to lift the Premier League title. He also helped them win a sixth UEFA Champions League.

Slot believes he has big shoes to fill at the historic English club, but is up to the challenge, telling the press at the AXA training centre (via Liverpool Echo):

“Big shoes to fill but you inherit a squad with a winning culture. One of the reasons to come here is I feel we have a really good team. You want to work at a club with good players and an opportunity to win something. The past shows Liverpool can win trophies. There is an opportunity to win something. I like to win and at this club there is an opportunity to win”

Arne Slot will do well to even get close to Jurgen Klopp's exploits at the club. The German spent nine years in Liverpool and will be fondly remembered by the Anfield faithful as he moves on to other pursuits.

Jurgen Klopp's replacement at Anfield, Arne Slot also discussed how he was adapting to life in Merseyside. The Dutch tactician managed Eredivisie side Feyenoord last season but got the chance to steward the English giants following Klopp's departure.

Speaking to the press in his maiden press conference at the AXA training centre, Slot said:

“It will take some time to understand everything. I will use my time to make the team in the best possible way for the first game. It helps if you get to know the city, but it helps if you win most of your games. One of the reasons they came to me is our playing style is not so different. We wants fans to come to the stadium and see a team with a lot of energy. That is what I am focussed on most.”

Slot will begin his journey in the Premier League with a trip to Ipswich Town on August 17. He will be keen to hit the ground running and establish his legacy at the iconic club.
