Barcelona star Lamine Yamal breaks record jointly held by Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham

Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal has broken a record previously held by Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, as reported by Squawka. The Spanish forward started the Champions League game against AS Monaco on Thursday, September 19, and created history.

It was Yamal's 11th Champions League appearance, and he is now the player with the most appearances in the competitions aged 17 or under. This record was previously jointly held by Bellingham, Youri Tielemans, and Warren Zaire-Emery, who all had 10 appearances in that age bracket.

Yamal, 17, has been outstanding for the Catalan giants since breaking into the scenes at Camp Nou last season. The teenager made 50 appearances across competitions for Barca in the 2023-24 campaign, scoring seven goals and setting up nine more. The Spaniard went on to win Euro 2024 with La Roja and has been in red hot form for Barcelona this season.

Meanwhile, Bellingham was equally decisive for Real Madrid last season, registering 23 goals and 13 assists from 42 games in all competitions. His efforts were key as Los Blancos won the league, the Champions League, and the Supercopa de Espana.

Jude Bellingham is yet to hit top form for Real Madrid this season, and Yamal could steal his limelight. The Barcelona youngster has already scored four goals and set up four more from six games across competitions in the current campaign.

Yamal also found the back of the net in the 2-1 loss to Monaco and became the second-youngest player to score in the Champions League. Interestingly, that record belongs to Barcelona's Ansu Fati, who was just four weeks older than Yamal when he found the back of the net against Inter Milan in 2019.
