Former France international Frank Leboeuf has defended Kylian Mbappe amid his recent controvery regarding a visit to a night club in Sweden. The 25-year-old was left out of the national team squad during the recent internationals.

Reports have also claimed that the Real Madrid forward has requested to play only in selective games for Les Bleus, as he prioritizes winning the Ballon d'Or. To make matters worse, the player was spotted at a club on the same night when France were playing Israel in the Nations League.

However, speaking on ESPN FC, Leboeuf urged Kylian Mbappe's critics to leave him alone.

“Of course, not. He’s the captain of France and one of the best players in the world. People should stop wondering about what should happen to Mbappe because he was in Sweden in a restaurant, not a nightclub. At 9:45 no nightclubs are open in Sweden," said Leboeuf.

He continued:

“If he wants to do whatever he wants to do, that’s fine. If he asked for authorization from his club to go away for three days because he can’t play for the national team during the international break, that’s fine. Also, if he doesn’t play every fixture for France, that’s going to be fine."

He concluded:

“I know that he texted Deschamps before the game, it’s not like he’s ignoring the national team. Mbappe loves playing for the national team, but he wasn’t ready. People should take care of their own business. Don’t worry too much about Mbappe.”

Kylian Mbappe has won the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2021 UEFA Nations League with France.

Kylian Mbappe completed a long-term dream by joining Real Madrid this summer following the expiry of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The French superstar has had to operate in a more central role at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Vinicius Junior playing in his preferred left-forward position.

However, Mbappe has still enjoyed a decent start to life with Los Blancos. He has registered seven goals and one assist from 11 games across competitions under Carlo Ancelotti.

The player picked up a thigh injury in Real Madrid's 3-2 win over Deportivo Alaves last month. While he was initially expected to be sidelined for a while, the Frenchman returned to action for Los Blancos against Villarreal.

However, he requested to be left out of Les Bleus' squad as he recovers from injury. Mbappe will be hoping to regain full fitness when Real Madrid take on Celta Vigo in La Liga on October 19.
