Arsenal and Chelsea have set their sights on Viktor Gyokeres, according to HITC. The Swedish striker was outstanding for Sporting Lisbon last season, registering 43 goals and 15 assists in 50 games across competitions.

His efforts made him a wanted man over the summer, with the Gunners and the Blues named among his suitors. However, Gyokeres ended up staying in Lisbon. The 26-year-old has also been on fire this season, scoring nine times and setting up three more from seven games in all competitions.

His efforts have caused a stir across Europe, and it is only a matter of time before the Swede is picked up by a top club. Arsenal are long-term admirers of the player and are considering a move in 2025.

The north London side wanted a new No. 9 this summer and had their eyes on Benjamin Sesko. However, the Slovenian opted to stay with RB Leipzig and signed a new deal.

Gyokeres was mentioned as an option for the Gunners in the final weeks of the transfer window, but a move never materialized. Meanwhile, Chelsea also had the Swede on their radar this year but opted to focus on Viktor Osimhen instead.

The Blues ultimately tasted defeat in their pursuit of the Nigerian, who has since joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli. Enzo Maresca lacks an established striker in his squad and has now set his sights on Gyokeres.

It is believed that scouts from the London clubs were in attendance when Sporting took on Lille in the Champions League earlier this week. The Swedish striker opened the scoring and gave a good account of his abilities as his team won 2-0.

Will Arsenal and Chelsea break the bank for Viktor Gyokeres in 2025?

Arsenal and Chelsea have invested heavily in squad building in recent times, but are still playing catch-up with Manchester City. It is a common belief that an established No. 9 can bridge the gap between the Gunners and the Premier League champions.

Meanwhile, the Blues are seeking an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson, who has blown hot and cold since he arrived at Stamford Bridge from Villarreal in the summer of 2023. With a move for Victor Osimhen no longer guaranteed, Viktor Gyokeres could be a fine alternative.

However, the Swede is under contract with Sporting until 2028 and has a £84m release clause. As such, Arsenal and Chelsea may have to pay a premium fee to secure his services in 2025.
