AEK Athens wish to sign Anthony Martial instead of David Datro Fofana

AEK Athens are closing in on signing former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as a free agent. The Greek giants have identified the Frenchman as an alternative target after failing to sign Chelsea's David Datro Fofana.

AEK Athens are in the market for a new frontman after losing Ezequiel Ponce to MLS outfit Houston Dynamo this summer. The Argentine striker found the back of the net 15 times in 29 league appearances for AEK last season as they finished second behind PAOK.

According to a report from reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Anthony Martial is set to sign a contract with AEK Athens this summer. The 28-year-old was a target for Europa League champions Atalanta earlier this summer but a move failed to materialize. He was also linked with a move to Flamengo, but the Brazilian outfit were unable to meet his wage demands.

AEK Athens turned their attention to the former Manchester United man after failing to land Chelsea youngster Fofana. Both sides were on the verge of reaching an agreement over a loan move with an option to buy but failed to agree on certain clauses in the deal.

Fofana, 21, has ended up at Turkish outfit Goztepe FK, while AEK Athens are set to sign Martial. He will join former Premier League players Thomas Strakosha, Roberto Pereyra, and Erik Lamela at the Greek club.

Manchester United target completes Ligue 1 switch - Reports

France international Adrien Rabiot has reached an agreement with Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Marseille to sign as a free agent. The former Juventus man will not be moving to the Premier League despite reported interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.

Rabiot left Juventus once his contract expired at the end of the 2023-24 season. The 29-year-old featured for France as they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024, but has not played any competitive football since.

Marseille have now confirmed that they have reached an agreement to sign the former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player.

Adrien Rabiot will return to France on a four-year deal for the first time since leaving PSG in 2019. He will join former Manchester United man Mason Greenwood at the Stade Velodrome.
