Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has slammed Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney after the Manchester United legends discussed England captain Harry Kane. The Bayern Munich striker led the Three Lions to a 2-1 win over the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-final, with him scoring the equalizer from the spot (18').

Kane was fouled inside the box by Denzel Dumfries after Xavi Simons had opened the scoring for Ons Oranje (7'). It was then Ollie Watkins, who scored the winner in the 90th minute, to put England in the final.

Rooney and Neville praised Kane's effort in the game, with the former full-back calling the ex-Tottenham striker "England's greatest ever player". This led to Carragher reacting strongly, with the Liverpool legend commenting on Sky Sports' Instagram page, where their reactions had been shared (via SportBible):

Euro 2024 has seen Harry Kane score three goals in six games. However, he may need to lift the continental trophy to be termed the greatest-ever English player.

Gary Neville questions Harry Kane's penalty for England in Euro 2024 semi-final clash

Gary Neville questioned the referee's decision to give a penalty to England in their Euro 2024 semi-final clash against the Netherlands.

While Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who was on punditry duties with ITV, felt that the challenge from Denzel Dumfries had been reckless, Neville thought it was justified.

The former defender explained on ITV (via Independent):

“As a defender I think it’s a disgrace. At any time, in a game of such importance, I was fuming by the Denmark one [a handball against Germany], I was offended. It’s natural to block the shot, it’s not a penalty, nowhere near a penalty."

“We’re all going mad, we don’t know what a penalty is. We’ve conditioned ourselves in the game to think that’s a penalty. Honestly, that is not a penalty. I think in the box, there’s a bit of licence to go in and block the shot,” he added.

Dumfries had raised a foot to block Harry Kane's shot towards goal, but the Netherlands defender hit the forward's foot in the air instead.

It won't matter much now, though, as England are now in the final, where they have a chance to win their first international trophy since 1966.
