5 players Barcelona may look to sell this summer

Barcelona have had quite a torrid time over the last couple of seasons. Despite winning La Liga two seasons ago under former manager Xavi, the club's financial woes have become a well-known issue.

Unfortunately, these problems are usually a result of poor financial management, which is quite disappointing for a club as big as the Blaugrana. To find a way to generate funds for transfers, they may need to sell some high-value players.

Moving players on would also free up the wage bill for any potential future signings. We look at five players Barcelona could sell before the end of this summer transfer window:

#5 Ansu Fati - Barcelona's former wonderkid

Once lauded as Messi's heir and even being handed the No. 10 jersey, Fati's Barcelona career might just be over as he's failed to hit the highs expected of him. The winger spent last season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, where he only managed four goals in 30 appearances although he did spend a large chunk of time sidelined with injury.

His career has been regularly affected by injury, and he might not even start this season, as the club revealed he had picked up a foot injury. He hasn't been linked to any clubs but Barca may surely look to offload him permanently this summer.

#4 Frenkie de Jong - Barcelona's highest-paid player

The Dutch midfielder is a quality player at his best, but like Ansu Fati, injuries have prevented him from showing that best regularly. It also does not help that the midfielder sits on monster wages.

De Jong is currently taking home well over €700,000 (via TEAMtalk) and that is an absurd amount for a club trying to grow financially.

Selling him would free up considerable funds for other transfers and ease some of the pressure on the club's wage bill. He has been linked to a number of clubs in recent years, including Manchester United.

#3 Vitor Roque - Struggling for a first-team slot

The 19-year-old Brazilian striker only joined Barca in the winter of the 2023-24 season but it's looking like his career might already be over at the club. So far, he has reportedly failed to impress new Barca manager Hansi Flick.

This comes after he was barely used during his half-season under Xavi, scoring just twice in 14 league games.

The club will most likely be looking to recoup as much of the €40m they paid for him in January. Nottingham Forest have been credited with an interest in the striker who should be looking to revive his career elsewhere.

#2 Clement Lenglet - Center-back on fringes of first team

The centre-back was signed for about €35m in the summer of 2018 with a lot of hype and expectations. These have not come to fruition, though. After back-to-back loans in the past two seasons, it seems his Barca career might as well be over.

Both loan spells have been in the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur first and then Aston Villa.

However, his second loan spell saw him play just 14 league games all season while he has been unable to retain a spot in the France national team. The Blaugrana will definitely be looking to move him on this summer and he has already been linked to Atletico Madrid on yet another loan deal.

#1 Ronald Araujo - Unhappy Barcelona defender

Ronald Araujo is reportedly unhappy about life in Barcelona, as the club could potentially leave him unregistered for the first half of the season. He has been dealt an injury, which could see him out of contention for the foreseeable future, leading the Blaugrana to contemplate sidelining him entirely.

This has not sat well with Araujo, according to a report from SPORT (via GOAL), and the defender is angry at the club's decision. Although moves to clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester United were dismissed by the 25-year-old, Barca's recent behavior has seen him actively push for an exit.
