Myanmar host Sri Lanka at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon on Sunday for a second round of international friendlies.

The sides clashed earlier this week at the same venue, with the home side beating the Golden Army, 2-0.

Lwin Moe Aung put them in front after only 16 minutes before Maung Maung Lwin doubled their advantage early in the second half.

It marked their first win of the calendar year since January, when the Chinthe beat Myawady in a training match, while also ending their three-game losing run.

Lwin could be rewarded for his heroics on Thursday with another start, as he's currently fifth in his nation's all-time scoring stats with 11 goals.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka's winless run extended to five games in all competitions, and they lost for the third time this year. In what's potentially their last game of 2024, Abdullah Al Mutairi's side will be looking to bring the curtain down on a bright note.

Myanmar vs Sri Lanka Head-To-Head and Key Numbers

  • This will be just the fourth clash between the sides in history.
  • The Chinthe have a 100% win record in the fixture, having beaten their rivals from south Asia in all three of their previous clashes, scoring nine goals and conceding none.
  • The Golden Army have failed to net in their last two games against the side in the fixture.
  • Abdullah Al Mutairi's side are winless in their last five official games, failing to score in four of them.
  • Myanmar have won just one of their last six, although it came in their most recent outing: a 2-0 win in this particular fixture on Thursday.
  • The Golden Army are ranked 200th in the world while their rivals from southeast Asia are just 33 places above them, according to the latest FIFA World Ranking.

Myanmar vs Sri Lanka Prediction

The Chinthe could repeat the trick which got them over the line on Thursday, as they are facing one of the weakest sides in the world; a side that rarely wins matches.

Given their own poor stature, however, we do not expect a blow-out, but the home side should win comfortably nonetheless.

Prediction: Myanmar 2-0 Sri Lanka
