Millwall and Watford square off in the 2024-25 EFL Championship opener on Saturday

Millwall and Watford go head-to-head at the Den in the 2024-25 EFL Championship opener on Saturday. Having failed to win the last four meetings between the sides, the Hornets will head into the weekend looking to get one over the hosts and kick off their push for Premier League promotion on a high.

Despite winning their final five games, Millwall failed to secure a top-half spot in the Championship last season as they finished 13th in the table with 59 points from 46 matches.

Neil Harris’ men head into Saturday’s season opener off the back of a 2-0 defeat against Southampton in their final game of pre-season last weekend.

This capped off an unconvincing off-season campaign for Millwall, who failed to win four of their six friendly matches, losing three and claiming one draw.

Elsewhere, Watford fought back from behind to salvage a 1-1 stalemate with Premier League side Brentford in their final friendly game last Saturday.

Like this weekend’s hosts, Tom Cleverley’s men struggled to impress in the off-season, claiming just two wins and losing three of their seven warm-up matches.

Watford head into the new Championship campaign looking to improve on their performance from last season when they finished 15th in the table with 56 points from 46 matches.
