Mexico meet Canada in an international friendly

Mexico will square off against Canada at AT&T Stadium in an international friendly on Tuesday. Both teams registered wins in their respective friendlies last week and will look to conclude the ongoing international break on a positive note.

El Tri squared off against New Zealand in a friendly at the Rose Bowl on Saturday and registered a comfortable 3-0 win. Orbelín Pineda scored in the first half while Cesar Huerta and Luis Romo added goals in the second half. Huerta was subbed on in the 52nd minute and made an instant impact, scoring just a minute later.

Les Rouges met the USA last week and recorded a 2-1 win. Jacob Shaffelburg scored in the 17th minute and Jonathan David, who provided the assist, got himself on the scoresheet in the second half.

Mexico vs Canada Head-to-Head and Key Numbers

  • The two teams have crossed paths 34 times in all competitions. El Tri have been the dominant side in these meetings with 22 wins. Les Rouges have got the better of their southern rivals four times and eight games have ended in draws.
  • They last met in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in 2021 and Cyle Larin's brace helped Canada register a 2-1 home win.
  • After recording five consecutive wins between 2013 and 2021 in this fixture, Mexico are winless in their last two meetings against their northern rivals, with a win and a draw.
  • The two teams have met three times in friendlies thus far. El Tri have a perfect record in these games, scoring 12 goals without a reply.
  • Les Rouges have scored more than one goal in just two of their last 11 meetings against El Tricolor, who have scored at least twice in seven of their last nine games in this fixture.

Mexico vs Canada Prediction

El Tri produced a dominant display in their friendly last week, returning to winning ways after two games. Interestingly, they are winless in their last two meetings against Les Rouges, scoring one goal apiece, and will look to improve upon that record.

Javier Aguirre got his third spell as the team's manager underway with a win and will hope to continue that momentum in this match. Julián Quiñones and Luis Chávez were subbed off with minor injuries against New Zealand and might be rested for this match.

The Reds continued their impressive run from the Copa America last week as they overcame USA 2-1. Jonathan David had a goal and an assist to his name in that match and is expected to lead the lineup in this match as well.

One change that is expected from Jesse Marsch in this match is replacing Alistair Johnston, who was injured in the first half and has left the training camp. Sam Adekugbe has been called up as his replacement.

Both teams put up solid performances last week and will look to continue that form here. Nonetheless, considering El Tri's dominance in this fixture, Mexico are expected to record a narrow win.

Prediction: Mexico 3-2 Canada
