Manchester United 7-0 Barnsley: Player ratings as Red Devils reach seventh heaven in EFL Cup opener

Manchester United cantered to a commanding 7-0 victory over Barnsley in their EFL Cup opener at Old Trafford on Tuesday, September 17. The Red Devils performed well against their League One opponents and secured their biggest win of the current campaign.

The hosts scored thrice without reply in the first half, thanks to Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho's strikes either side of an Antony penalty. Rashford and Garnacho doubled their tallies in the second half before Christian Eriksen bagged a brace as well to complete a seven-goal fiesta at the Theatre of Dreams.

Altay Bayindir - 7/10

The Turkish shot-stopper had a fine game for Manchester United, making seven recoveries and completing 88% of his passes. Bayindir did not need to make a save.

Diogo Dalot - 7/10

The Portuguese defender had a fine game for the hosts, completing 93% of his passes and creating one chance. He also recovered possession three times in his 63 minutes on the pitch.

Harry Maguire- 8/10

The English defender had a solid performance for Manchester United. He completed 60 passes, recovered possession three times, and made four interceptions.

Jonny Evans- 8/10

The veteran defender was solid in the game against Barnsley for the Red Devils. He completed 47 passes and recovered possession four times in 78 minutes on the pitch.

Toby Collyer- 8/10

The young midfielder, playing at left-back, won the most duels on the pitch (8) and gave a good account of himself in front of the Old Trafford faithful. Collyer played all 90 minutes and completed 35 passes while making four interceptions and six recoveries.

Casemiro- 8/10

The Brazilian had a fine game for Manchester United and completed the most passes on the pitch (79). He tested the keeper once in the game and made nine recoveries in an overall solid performance.

Manuel Ugarte - 7/10

The Uruguayan midfielder looked like he needs more time to settle into his new team, despite the triumphant circumstances as he lost the most duels in the game (8). He made three interceptions and recoveries each while completing 32 passes in his 62 minutes on the pitch.

Christian Eriksen - 9.5/10

Eriksen was brilliant for Manchester United on Tuesday night. The Danish midfielder completed 96% of his passes and scored a brace while setting up another goal in the rout of Barnsley.

Antony - 8/10

The Brazilian winger had a good game for the Red Devils and will hope to build on his performance. He won and converted a spot kick in the first half, but he also completed 53 out of 59 passes and made seven recoveries in the game.

Alejandro Garnacho - 9.5/10

The Argentine winger was the best player on the pitch and his goals and assists for Manchester United set him apart from everyone on the pitch. He scored twice and set up two other goals in a masterful performance at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford - 9.5/10

Marcus Rashford was in electric form for Manchester United, scoring a brace and providing an assist to Alejandro Garnacho. He also completed the most dribbles in the match (3)and will hope he can build on his fine performance in the games to come.

Manchester United Substitutes

Bruno Fernandes - 8.5/10

The Manchester United captain came on in 62nd minute and still found a way to be the most creative player on the pitch with six chances created. The Portuguese Magnifico bagged two assists in his 28 minutes on the pitch.

Noussair Mazraoui - 7.5/10

The Moroccan international came on for 28 minutes and had a fine game for the hosts. He completed 91% of his passes and recovered possession six times following his introduction.

Joshua Zirkzee - 7/10

Joshua Zirkzee came on for nearly 30 minutes of regulation time but only managed 12 touches on the pitch. He managed a shot on goal, but could not get on the scoresheet.

Matthijs de Ligt- 7/10

The Dutch defender came on for 12 minutes and managed 11 touches of the ball in that time, completing 10 passes. He recovered possession twice, but did not have a massive impact on the mauling.

Amad Diallo-NA

Amad Diallo came on late in the second half and did not have enough time to influence the game.
