Jean-Francois-Gillet

Belgian goalkeeper Jean Francois Gillet who represents Torino F C has been banned for 43 months(3 years and 7 months), for his involvement in match fixing.

The Belgian footballer had been under suspicion from 2008, a time when he represented Bari football club. In a match between Bari and Treviso, where Bari lost 0-1, aspersions were cast on his performance. A similar situation arose in May 2009 in a game against Salernitana where Bari again ended up losing 2-3.

The Italian Football Federation’s disciplinary panel have initiated this action against Gillet and also applied sanctions on 20 other footballers involved in match fixing.

Massimo Ganci and Cosimo D’Angelo have been banned for four years, while Gianluca Galasso will also serve a suspension term of 3 years and 7 months.

A few other players such as Raffaele Bianco, Francesco Caputo, Daniele De Vezze, Luca Fusco, Stefano Guberti, Vitali Kutuzov, Alessandro Parisi, Simone Bonomi, Ivan Rajcic andVincenzo Santoruvo have been banned for three years and six months.

These developments could effectively see an early end to the career of the 34 year old Gillet.
