Liverpool picked up a win to open their campaign.

A strong second half performance lifted Liverpool to a 2-0 win over newly promoted Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Saturday, August 17.

Eight players from Jurgen Klopp's final eleven started for Slot in his first official game in charge. Diogo Jota led the line alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, while Jarell Quansah was selected alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool were quite lackluster in the first half as Ipswich matched the Reds' energy well. The hosts were active on the counter and organised off the ball as the visitors failed to notch a shot on target.

The visitors were much better in the second half, showing their quality and scoring two quick goals to effectively put an end to the affair. Jota got on the scoresheet first, getting an easy finish after a pull-back from Salah in the 60th minute. The Egyptian turned scorer just five minutes later, tapping home from close range to double their advantage.

Liverpool were able to see out the result for the remainder of the game, ensuring a perfect start to life under Slot. Here are the player ratings:

Liverpool Player Ratings

Alisson - 6.5/10

The Brazilian had barely anything to do throughout the game, making just two saves.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7/10

Alexander-Arnold looked to be at his creative best, using his ability on the ball to generate opportunities. He finished the game with three chances created, five accurate long balls and nine passes into the final third.

Jarell Quansah - 6.5/10

He had a solid first-half but was surprisingly removed at half-time for Konate.

Virgil van Dijk - 7/10

Another strong performance from Liverpool's captain in central defence. He was assured in possession and strong in defence, even producing a great long ball that eventually led to the Reds' second goal.

Andrew Robertson - 6/10

Despite Tsimikas dominating minutes in pre-season, the Scotland international was a surprise inclusion for the side. He had a mediocre outing, looking rusty at times.

Ryan Gravenberch - 7/10

The Dutch international was deployed alongside Mac Allister in a double pivot and looked good playing a No. 6 role.

Alexis Mac Allister - 6.5/10

Similar to Liverpool's performance as a whole, the Argentinian was inconsistent in the first half but looked much improved in the second period.

Dominik Szoboszlai - 6.5/10

The Hungarian had a lively second-half performance, looking threatening at moments. He finished with three chances created, three shots and two long balls completed.

Mohamed Salah - 8.5/10

Salah picked up right where he left off from last season. He provided a selfless assist before getting on the scoresheet himself, in the process bagging his seventh opening day goal in eight seasons for the club.

Luis Diaz - 7/10

The Colombian's directness proved to be a constant thorn in the side for the hosts. He completed the game with five dribbles, three chances created and two passes into the final third.

Diogo Jota - 7.5/10

Chose to lead the line over Darwin Nunez, Jota linked up well with the attackers and broke the deadlock.

Substitutes

Ibrahima Konate - 6.5/10

Looked solid replacing Quansah for the second period.

Conor Bradley, Cody Gakpo and Kostas Tsimikas - N/A

The trio came on late and did not play enough minutes to merit a rating.
