Chelsea star Cole Palmer has selected Italy striker Mario Balotelli when asked to pick a player he would choose to take a penalty if his life depended on it. Cole Palmer has been one of the most important players for Chelsea since joining Enzo Maresca's side from Manchester City in 2023.

In 53 games for the west London outfit across competitions, Palmer has netted 31 goals and laid out 19 assists.

In an interview with BBC Sport (via @BBCMOTD on X), Palmer chose Mario Balotelli as his go-to penalty-taker if his life depended on it and he couldn't take the spot-kick himself. Here's how the conversation went:

Palmer: If I can’t say me...

Interviewer: You can say yourself.

Palmer: Yeah I would, but I’ll say one just for the content. The one that comes to my head is Balotelli. Have you seen his pens?

The interviewer was initially perplexed by his choice. However, Palmer assured him saying:

"I trust him, go on YouTube and search his penalties."

Both Mario Balotelli and Cole Palmer spent three years at Manchester City exactly ten years apart. Mario Balotelli is currently without a club after leaving Super Lig outfit Adana Demirspor in July 2024.

Chelsea's recent loan arrival Jadon Sancho has raved about Cole Palmer after his record-breaking display against Brighton & Hove Albion on September 28 at Stamford Bridge. I’m sure he will be fuming not to add to his tally but in all seriousness, he’s such a quality player."

The 22-year-old is the reigning PFA Young Player of the Year and the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year in England, having registered a whopping six goals and four assists in his first eight games of the season for Maresca's outfit.
