Rome, Dec 25 (IANS) Italian Serie A side Cagliari have named fan favourite Gianfranco Zola as their new coach. The 48-year-old Zola replaces Zdemak Zeman, who was sacked on Monday after a series of poor results, reports Xinhua.
Cagliari are just above the relegation zone with only one win in 12 games since September. Zola will take over on Sunday when the players resume training after the Christmas lay-off.
The Italian has previously managed in England, having taken charge of West Ham in the Premier League for slightly less than two years. Following that, he signed on as manager of Watford in 2012, but couldn’t guide them to promotion and resigned midway through his second season.
