Finland face off with England in a UEFA Nations League game at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki this Sunday.

Both of these sides are coming off losses in their earlier Nations League games this week. Finland fell to the Republic of Ireland 1-2, while England suffered a shock defeat at Wembley at the hands of Greece by the same score.

So with both sides desperate for a win, who will come out on top on Sunday?

Finland vs England Head-to-Head and Key Numbers

  • England played Finland in a UEFA Nations League game last month and ran out comfortable winners thanks to a brace from Harry Kane. The last time the Three Lions visited Helsinki, though, they drew 0-0 in a truly dour World Cup 2002 qualifier.
  • Finland's form remains a cause for concern coming into this game. They have not won a match since beating Estonia in March, and have lost all three of their UEFA Nations League matches this year.
  • England's loss to Greece earlier this week was the first time that the Three Lions had ever lost to them, giving interim boss Lee Carsley an unwanted record. Losing to Finland - who they have played 12 times before without defeat - would be disastrous.
  • Part of England's loss to Greece came from Carsley's curious team selection, which saw him go without a recognized striker and instead play five creative players. Given Harry Kane should be fit for this one, we can expect England to go back to a more conventional formation for this game.
  • Only lowly Kazakhstan have scored fewer goals than Finland in the current UEFA Nations League B campaign. However, while they have not scored yet, they have at least secured a point, something Finland have yet to do.

Finland vs England Prediction

It's probably not unfair to describe England's performance against Greece on Thursday as shambolic, but thankfully, this could be a good match for them to bounce back with.

Not only have Finland shown very little in their three Nations League matches this year, but the Helsinki Olympic Stadium is not known as an intimidating place to visit, with Ireland winning there this week.

With Lee Carsley likely to go back to a more conventional setup following Thursday's awry experiment, England should be far more comfortable in this game, particularly if Harry Kane is back.

Based on the earlier game between these sides it's unlikely that we will get a goal-fest, but it's probably fair to expect an away win.

Prediction: Finland 0-2 England

Finland vs England Betting Tips

Tip 1: Result - England to win.

Tip 2: Harry Kane to score for England - Yes (Kane is expected to return from injury to lead the line, and he scored a brace against Finland in September).

Tip 3: England to keep a clean sheet - Yes (Finland have struggled in front of goal in the current campaign, and England are likely to tighten up in defense following their debacle against Greece).
