Liverpool held off a late surge from Crystal Palace to go four points at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win on Saturday, October 5.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner dropped last season's top-scorer Jean-Philippe Mateta. Trevoh Chalobah made his debut for the side while Ismaila Sarr made his first start.

Liverpool, meanwhile, made three changes from the side that beat Wolves last time out. Kostas Tsimikas, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota came in for Andy Robertson, Dominik Szobsozlai and Darwin Nunez.

The visitors started well and took the lead in the ninth minute. Cody Gakpo was found in space by Tsimikas and the Dutchman found Jota who managed a cool finish to open the scoring.

The rest of the first period was fully controlled by Liverpool as the hosts were unable to get anything going in attack. Glasner made some attacking changes in the second half including bringing Mateta on, which seemed to instill some juice into the hosts.

Alisson Becker was forced into action a couple of times before the Brazilian was withdrawn with an apparent hamstring injury. With Caoimhin Kelleher unavailable, third-choice keeper Vitezslav Jaros came in and helped the Reds see the game out for their sixth win of the Premier League campaign.

The result confirms that Liverpool will finish the gameweek on top of the table while Palace are still searching for their first win of the season. Here are the player ratings:

Liverpool Player Ratings

Alisson - 7/10

Solid performance at the back from the Brazilian but he was unfortunate to be taken off with an issue in his hamstring.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6.5/10

Alexander-Arnold provided his usual threat going forward, creating a few good chances while defending capably as well.

Ibrahima Konate - 7/10

Konate continues to grow in stature and put in a good performance in central defence as Liverpool continue establish themselves as one of the better defensive sides in the league.

Virgil van Dijk - 6.5/10

The Dutchman was an imposing figure but was slightly lucky to avoid conceding a penalty for tugging at Marc Guehi in the second half.

Kostas Tsimikas - 7/10

Tsimikas put in a strong outing at left-back. His great through-ball led to the only goal of the game while he also defended well before being taken off.

Curtis Jones - 6.5/10

He played in a deeper role than usual for him and looked uncomfortable at times, committing more fouls than necessary.

Ryan Gravenberch - 7/10

Gravenberch continues to blossom under Slot, establishing himself as one of Liverpool's best performers this season. He finished the game with two chances created, nine passes into the final third, two interceptions and three duels won.

Alexis Mac Allister - 6/10

Mac Allister was largely quiet for the first period before being taken off.

Mohamed Salah - 6/10

An unusually quiet outing from Salah who never really got going in the game. He was restricted to just two shots and 33 touches all game before being taken off for Diaz.

Diogo Jota - 7/10

Jota bagged his first goal since the opening weekend with a composed finish but arguably should have had more on the day. One opportunity in each half was squandered by the Portugal international but it eventually did not matter.

Cody Gakpo - 7.5/10

Gakpo made a case for himself to become a more regular starter with a brilliant performance. The winger was a constant threat down the left, finishing the game with five chances created, four passes into the final third, two dribbles completed and seven duels won.

Substitutes

Dominik Szoboszlai - 6/10

Came on for the second half and attempted multiple efforts from outside the box, all barely threatening Dean Henderson.

Luis Diaz - 6/10

Came on in a slightly unnatural position on the right and could not contribute much as Liverpool had to hold on to their lead.

Andrew Robertson - 6/10

Came on for Tsimikas and helped see out the result.

Vitezslav Jaros - 6.5/10

He would have not expected to play a role in today's game but with Alisson's injury and Kelleher's illness, he was subbed on for the last 10 minutes and looked composed in goal.

Wataru Endo - N/A

Endo came on too late and did not play enough minutes to merit a rating.
