Congo and South Africa meet for the second round of their battle in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Tuesday. The first one last week was completely lop-sided as Bafana Bafana crushed their rivals 5-0.

A brace from Teboho Mokoena, followed by goals from Bathusi Aubaas, Lyle Foster and Iqraam Rayners, ensured a big win for the home side, also their second in a row in these qualifiers.

With seven points in three games, Hugo Broos' side are currently second in Group K, behind Uganda by virtue of having scored more head-to-head away goals.

Ranked 59th in the world, they are aiming for a 12th appearance at next year's Moroccan showpiece and a second in a row. At this year's championship, they achieved third place, marking their best performance since 2000.

On the other hand, the Red Devils have witnessed a sort of anti-climax of their campaign. They beat South Sudan 1-0 in their opener to start it off with all three points, but have since lost two games to see their early momentum fizzle out.

Isaac Ngata's side are now in third place with three points, four behind the qualification spots, and must pick themselves up before it's too late. They haven't played in the AFCON tournament since 2015.

Congo vs South Africa Head-To-Head and Key Numbers

  • There have been 11 clashes between the sides in history, with the Bafana Bafana winning six times and losing just once. That defeat came way back in April 1997 (2-0 in a World Cup qualifier).
  • Congo have failed to score in their last three games in the fixture.
  • Hugo Broos' side are unbeaten in their last 15 games but have won just six times during this run.
  • With 10 goals scored, South Africa have the joint-best offensive record alongside Algeria, Burkina Faso and Morocco.

Congo vs South Africa Prediction

The Red Devils lack the quality to match their visitors, and it showed in their 5-0 drubbing last week. In fact, out of six games this year, they've won just once and lost four times.

Unless the side miraculously produce a stellar display, we expect South Africa to complete a double with another win.

Prediction: Congo 0-2 South Africa
