Chelsea play host to League Two side Barrow in the EFL Cup on Tuesday

High-flying Chelsea get their EFL Cup campaign underway when they play host to Barrow at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. While the League Two side face a tough third round challenge, they will look to show their mettle against one of the best sides in the country and cause an upset.

It was a perfect day at the office for Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca as he watched his side thrash local rivals West Ham United 3-0 at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The Blues have now picked up three wins and one draw from their opening five Premier League games to sit fifth in the standings with 10 points from a possible 15.

Chelsea now turn their sights to the EFL Cup, where they will be looking to go one step further than their 2023-24 run, in which they fell to a 1-0 loss against Liverpool in the final.

Barrow, on the other hand, continued their fine start to the new League Two campaign as they secured a 2-0 victory over Newport County at the Holker Street on Saturday.

Stephen Clemence’s men have now picked up fine wins and one draw from their seven league games to collect 16 points and sit top of the table, level on points with second-placed Gillingham.

Barrow will now be in action in the EFL Cup, where they kicked off the campaign with a 3-2 home win over Port Vale on August 13, two weeks before beating Derby County on penalties in the second round.

Chelsea vs Barrow Head-To-Head and Key Numbers

  • This will be the second-ever encounter between Chelsea and Barrow, with the Blues claiming a 5-0 victory when they first met in the FA Cup back in January 1948.
  • Maresca’s men are unbeaten in five of their last seven games — claiming four wins and one draw — with a 2-1 defeat against Servette on August 29 and a Premier League opening day defeat to Manchester City being the exceptions.
  • Barrow have lost just one of their last seven matches across all competitions while picking up five wins and one draw since August 24.
  • Chelsea are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 competitive home games, claiming nine wins and two draws since late February.

Chelsea vs Barrow Prediction

Chelsea appear to have gotten into gear under new coach Maresca and will head into Tuesday’s clash oozing with confidence. Given the gulf in quality and depth between the two sides, we are backing the Blues to run riot in front of their home supporters.

Prediction: Chelsea 4-0 Barrow
