Argentina v Ecuador - CONMEBOL Copa America USA 2024
Argentina will face Canada - CONMEBOL Copa America USA 2024

Argentina and Canada will face off at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Tuesday in the semifinals of the 2024 Copa America. The Albisceleste have returned to familiar territory as they continue their push for back-to-back Copa America titles.

After a brilliant group stage campaign in which they picked up nine points from an obtainable nine, the defending champions locked horns with Ecuador at the NRG Stadium in the quarterfinals of the continental showpiece and were less than impressive in the showdown.

Manchester United man Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring late in the first half with his maiden international goal to hand Argentina the lead heading into the break. The Albiceleste failed to build on their one-goal advantage and were ultimately pegged back in additional time, although they would go on to win the penalty shootout following heroics from goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Canada, meanwhile, had mixed results in the group stages of the Copa America but did just enough to advance to the knockout stages and faced off against a motivated Venezuela side in the quarterfinals.

Jacob Shaffelburg poked home the opener for the Canucks just 13 minutes after kick-off before their opponents leveled the scores midway through the second half. With the game level after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout ensued which Jesse March's men won to secure a spot in the final four.
